Malaysia says Trump is predicted to join Thailand-Cambodia truce pact
"It is expected that the Kuala Lumpur Accord Declaration will be signed. Trump is looking forward to witnessing the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal," Hasan said, adding that the event will coincide with Malaysia’s hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit.
While Washington has not yet confirmed Trump’s travel plans, Malaysia — which currently chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations — has said the US leader is likely to take part in the ASEAN-US joint summit scheduled for Oct. 26–28.
The announcement comes as Trump has already confirmed his participation at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in South Korea on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, with reports suggesting Japan may also prepare for a visit.
Cambodia and Thailand reached an unconditional ceasefire on July 28 after weeks of clashes, following mediation efforts led by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. A follow-up agreement on Aug. 7 outlined 13 commitments, including provisions for ASEAN observers to monitor the truce along the disputed border.
