South Korean Visitor Embraces Islam During Trip to Historic Mardin
The visitor, identified as Shaevn, decided to embrace Islam while in Mardin, a city known for its distinctive architecture, long history and cultural heritage. An official ceremony marking the conversion was later held at the Artuklu District Mufti’s Office.
The ceremony was overseen by Artuklu District Mufti Suleyman Baran, who guided the visitor through the formal process. During the gathering, Shaevn recited the shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, formally entering the Muslim faith.
Following the ceremony, the new convert adopted the name “Abdullah.” Baran then presented Abdullah with a copy of the Quran as a commemorative gift at the end of the gathering.
The conversion took place in Mardin, a city whose architectural character and cultural identity have been shaped by the presence of different civilizations over centuries. Its historic sites and distinctive heritage have made it a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors, including tourists seeking to explore its religious and cultural landmarks.
